A few weeks ago I went to Langley Airport after work.. this is what I saw - Wow!! Who would have thought - a couple of trainer planes (Harvards I think) were doing some flights and a Balloon went by at dusk .. and some other real neat images ..

CHICAGO - My Kind of town ..

I was fortunate enough the begining of June (2010 :-)) to be able to spend a few days in Chicago... It was a great trip and very hot !!.. I took in the sights and even went to the Blues Festival - its a vibrant city and the fact that it has this huge lakeshore area redeems it from just being anothe rbig Americian city - greta food and greta shops abound... Also it was the Chicago Blackhawks Hockey finals and the Stanley Cup parade ... Here is a little photographic tour of some of the sights I saw... Hope you enjoy !!

I started my stay in Lombard which is a suburb of Chicago - Lombard is about 1 hours drive from centre of downtown..

Later we all went downtown.. We travelled the Mtero and that in itself is worthwhile ..

Once downtown we enjoyed a number of differant things - Went up the Hancock Building - very impressive viwes of the city - went to Navy Pier.. great sights and even took in the Stained Glass exhibits .. Went to see the Blus Festival too.. a great day...

Amazing big city feel and sights . statues, street performers, buildings ... all challange your senses .. all delight the mind....

Then there was the Blues Festival - a huge success - free concert - wonderful venue...

Then the next day it was Navy Pier and the Stained Glass Museum and also went on a boat ride through the canals which went right through the central core..

Lots to see and lots to do in this great Midwest City....

And of course we could not forget the new Stanley Cup National Hockey Champions - the CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Olympics 2010

Wow !! What a blast that all was !!As I am sure most of you know we have just had the 2010 Winter Olympics here in Vancouver - WELL DONE VANCOUVER!! I was out and about on four different occasions taking pictures of the people and places - it was certainly the time of many peoples lives- we can only be very happy and very proud of all the people who made this the world class event that it was ! The success was obvious to all who participated.... I hope the few pictures I have here give those who were not there a good idea of a small portion of what went on .. and for those who were here .. some pleasant memories...

Today I spoke with someone who I have admired for close on 32 years .. today I spoke with Freeman Patterson - Yes the Photographer. In my position as an Executive Member of the Langley Camera Club I was trying to set up a visit to BC by Freeman to do some workshops. He has agreed in principle and we hope to set up firm dates in 2010.. I look forward too that!! I encourage all to read his books .. they were an inspiration too me many years ago.. and still are...

All the above noted pictures were taken on a trip to the Cariboo / Chilcotin area of Northern British Columbia Canada - what a great place to visit - the flowers were wonderful and the scenery outstanding.. Some of these pictures are manipulated and changed a little with the HDR program and others are straight out of my camera.. I would go back there in an instant - its a beautiful place and the people we met were very friendly.. the only drawback was the Mosquitoes - I was 2lbs lighter by the time I got back to Lower Mainland!!!!

Outside my sons store, in Port Coquitlam, they have a car show
every year - it attracts about 400 great show cars - from almost stock to
some really wild examples - wonderful creations in chrome, steel and paint..
I just love the shinny cars.... the power and gleam.. art in cars at its best..
or is it cars as art???

Tulameen Valley Feb 09

I went on a weeks trip to an area called Tulameen ... and would do it
all over again...
Tulameen is a small recreational community in B C, Canada,
about 20 kilometres northwest of the town of Princeton
on the Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3), and about 185 kilometres
east from the city of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Located at the south end of Otter Lake and just north of the
Tulameen River, it is on the lee side of the Canadian Cascades
mountain range and enjoys a slightly semi-arid climate,
sheltered from the heavy rains of the lower mainland.
It was a fantastic trip and here is what I came home with.......

Smile and the world smiles with you.. certainly worked
for me.. there we were driving along and saw this lovely
old barn - so we stopped to take a picture .. and here came
6 beautiful Pyrenean dogs- barking and fussing and this
one special guy.. he just lay down in the snow and performed
... what a treat

How can you not love them...

This is the barn that led to us meeting the big dogs

Old rail car was left here .. for the future..

Some days we had real big snow storms..

... and the next the sky was blue..

We visited the pioneer graveyard above Princeton.. what a lovely

place in winter - everything covered in a thick blanket of pure

white undistrubed snow.. just the headstones and some very cold

baby angels...

I did a shoot for the Langley Arts Council at the FAT CITY SWING club last night
What a blast it was - Great place, wonderful people and a whole lot of fun..
check them out at www.fatcityswing.com ...
All these photos were taken without a flash and all done with the ambiant
light that was available in the hall.. There was not much.. hence the swirls
and lines that appear to fly out from the figures - every picture is a surprise
and every picture is not as you would imagine.. The designs are endless and
the action obvious...............

Swing music is wonderful to listen too.. very fast and action packed..
Great way to stay in shape too:-)

As I wander the various areas I shoot in I see the people...
Its real easy to be drawn too them... as photographic
subjects the human form is so expressive and varied.. as
these pictures will show - each one is special for its own reasons..
So many emotions are expressed and so many are
hidden... I have tried to capture a few.... all these candid
pictures are taken in public places - none are posed or planned..

Computer Manipulation

There are many who said upon the advent of the digital camera
age that photography died.. I disagree very strongly with this
statement !! I think the digital age opened up photography into
a whole new art form.. the fact that the average person can now
take an image and change it so dramatically, all in the computer,
is a wonderful thing........ Images are made that are beautiful, thought
provoking and very different... Images as art .. images to please...
images to make us wonder... These images would be impossible without a
computer, the digital image and a persons imagination....

The digital camera is today so sophisticated I challenge anyone to
tell the difference between the traditional film produced photo
to the digitally produced one.. However, it's still garbage in garbage out...

I hope you enjoy these fantasies of my imagination....

This started out as a picture of one hawk.. I gave him a friend

Mountains in my backyard - Maple Ridge - never looked so blue

This is a statue in the snow- I changed it to a negative image
and then added some highlights around the base..

Much cloning of planes and changing of color spectrum

I did this one as a protest against WAR.. all photos were

talen on a Remembrance Parade - its was a very sad occasion

Now this one was fun.. made the mans head with photoshop - just

pulled out the shape from a single picture.. then carefully placed this

mans dream into his head.. can you find his dream?

Flowers

Flowers - So much frail beauty for such a short time...
What can I say that hasn't already been said about the
humble garden flower - the noble Rose - the mysterious Orchid - the wild flowers -
the fruit flowers... and some say weeds..
Year after year they all bring me such joy and pleasure as I try to get in close and
capture their delicate beauty and wonderful patterns.. each flower
is the start of life all over again.. another year..

I took this flower in a room in Revelstoke - put the flower
on a window sill - taken with all natural light..

These adorn an 19th century gave - at the Quenell
Forks Ghost Town..

The elusive Tiger Lily - found high up in the
mountains of B.C.

This is a macro shot of the inside of a flower
well - the well was filled with rain water.. another
world of color and images are available in this
tiny world.. so much to explore..

outside my front door...

Here I have used the HDR process to bring out
the hidden colors and textures that are there ..
just waiting to be discovered..

On a trip last year to the Bloedel Conservatory
I discovered Orchids of many kinds..
Here is the inside of one... this is a place you
should visit at least once a year ..

On the kitchen table.. a glass vase and a few cut flowers..
wild and not .. this is the flower I took the macro
of the well filled with water... see above..

In Lund - the last town before you drive into the sea
up the Sunshine Coast - you will find many flowers..
They grow so well there..

Growing in the dirt next to a busy street and sidewalk..
this little beauty grows.. just waiting to be noticed.. I did ..

Poppies galore.. every year at Stewart Farm.. another must
visit local place.. Crescent Beach..

There are so many - so different - so pretty..
in a field somewhere near Mission..

Lund - again - another town beauty welcomes you

Another Yucca - different light - this is my flashlight

set at one side ... on an overcast day...

Fields of flowers .. on the side of the highway.. way

up on the way to the Shulaps..

And the Lupins.. at every turn.. in many a mountain

road.

And the Buttercups.. 1000's and 1000's blanket the

fields of B.C...

And the inside story again.. a bee's target area..

A Ghost Lily .. inside the Conservatory

in Burnaby.. one of the many wonders

to be found.. Birds too..

These tall pale colored flowers adorn the ditches

and sides of many roads all summer long.

Each tiny tiny yellow center is like a flower

in itself.. what perfection..

some would say) I think is one of the best places in the world -
to live in - to visit - and to photograph... a pure Lotus Land ...
